Do’s and Don’ts of Garbage Disposals
Plumbing Solutions of Idaho expert tips
Garbage disposals are incredibly handy; some have become accustomed to using them while others are new at this fancy sink addition. Whatever the case, there are a few do’s and don’t’s when it comes to using your garbage disposal. No one wants to deal with a backed up sink.
Don’ts
Dont’sThis list will be a little longer simply because it is easy to overdo it with your garbage disposal. Here are a few things you just shouldn’t put in there:
- grease
- coffee grinds
- non-food items (wrappers, cigarettes, etc.)
- excessively large food items or hard food items
A lot of the things you shouldn’t put in the disposal are common sense; no glass, no whole bananas, no elephants. But things like coffee grinds may be less intuitive. They can clog up your disposal quickly, even though it seems like a fine thing to include in the disposal job.If you do end up with a clogged dish disposal, we would be more than happy to help you out, just give us a call! We do hope, however, that this blog will help you avoid any disposal mishaps. Thanks for reading!
Do’s
Enjoy it! Don’t be afraid every time a food scrap goes down the disposal; that’s what it is made for. Make sure you clear it out regularly and run cold water while doing so. First, run the cold water, then start the disposal, then add whatever food is left in the sink.
