There’s no denying: it is getting cold outside. With snow on Bogus and in town temperatures dropping, you may be thinking about prepping for winter. Part of getting your property ready for the winter months is readying your plumbing for the cold. We would like to help you be prepared and well set for the cold with these simple how-to instructions.

The first step in this is realizing that there are actual things to do to protect your plumbing from the cold. Not everyone is aware of the necessary actions to take to avoid frozen pipes and other problems. So before winter gets the jump on you, take care of the following things:

​Fix Those Leaks

It is common to have a leak here or there that you haven’t found the time to fix just yet. Summer is busy, and Fall passes all too quickly. But when temperatures start to drop below freezing, your plumbing is in danger due to leaks. As water freezes, a small problem expands all on its own.

​Insulate Those Pipes

The more protection you can offer your pipes from the cold, the less likely you are to get part way through the winter with frozen pipes. Pay special attention to exposed pipes in cold basements or outdoors.

​Got Swamp Coolers?

If you have an evaporative cooler or swamp cooler, make sure it is drained before the cold hits. This is also a good time to clean up the interior and replace filters for next year.These are just a few ways that you can save yourself money and headache during the freezing months ahead.
