Small bits of food find their way down our kitchen sinks every day. If there is an existing clog or one in the making, food can then become trapped. As a clog builds in your kitchen sink, so does a stench. Eventually, the smell is unyielding and an odor that begins in your sink can invade every other room in your home. While it may be too late to prevent a drain blockage, there are a few things you can do to try and eliminate the smell.
The Drain Stopper: Has it been fully cleaned will all food debris removed? Clean the removable stopper and the sink hole under it. Sometimes food and bacteria can build up there.
Garbage Disposal Blades: Blades are tricky to clean, especially when they are out of sight. Freeze lemon rinds in vinegar and then send the frozen cubes through a running garbage disposal.
Faucets: Check to make sure there is any gunk hiding out in the faucet itself. Clean out the barrel and the aerator cap.
Baking Soda and Vinegar: Most do-it-yourself enthusiasts know all about this cleaning combination. Send a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by vinegar, watch out, it fizzes! After 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.
