We see septic systems across the Boise area and many have been installed years ago. Septic systems comprised of four main parts; A pipe from the home, the septic tank, the leach field and the soil which filters the water before it reaches the water table below.
As you use water, taking a shower or flush your toilet, the water travels through your drain lines and into a septic tank. Within the tank the waste separates into three layers the Scum Layer (top), Water (middle), Sludge Layer (bottom). The middle layer is clean enough to pass back into the ecosystem, which it does typically through a leach field. A rather simple technology many times powered by gravity and often found in rural areas across the Treasure Valley. These sewage systems do require more maintenance, cleaning and repairs than a city sewer system. There are a couple main types of septic systems Conventional and Aerobic systems. With conventional systems as described above gravity does most of the work. With an Aerobic system the waste is aerated and treated typically with chemicals before discharge. Some discharge systems can utilize sprinklers to fertilize your lawn. Other alternative septic systems might use sand other media to filter the discharged water as well they may chemically treat the waste water before releasing back into the ground. We offer full-service septic plumbing with common services including:

Septic Pumping and Inspection:
A typical septic tank will need cleaned every 3 to 4 years, while regular inspection and maintenance is recommended. Alternative systems tend to need more maintenance and more frequent inspection.
Cleaning your septic tank is required when the tank does not have enough capacity to filter any more solids waste out of the septic tank.
A full septic tank can cause foul odors to backup into and around the home. The ground around the tank may become swampy as it over flows form the tank. Also watch for slow drains which can be a great indicator the septic tank needs cleaned.

Septic System Installation:
As a full-service plumbing company in Boise we help residents install septic or onsite sewage disposal systems of all types. We often see conventional septic systems, but alternatives such as Aerobic systems and other alternative solutions.
Septic Tanks are often polyethylene, fiberglass, concrete or steel and have varying capacities suited for different size residents. While some septic tank can be as large as 2,500 gallons others may be 500 gallons. Most have a single septic compartment while we are seeing more of the dual compartment septic tanks lately. Consult a plumber to help you pick out and install the right septic tank for your needs.
The leach field consists of a series of perforated pipes which are buried deep under the ground. They are surrounded by gravel and the perforations help the waste water leach into the soil. As the waste drains through the soil it filters out microbial bacteria and other unhealthy organisms.
Septic systems try to use gravity to keep the waste moving through the system. While sometimes a pump is needed to help move the septic system along.
We also install Alternative Septic Systems from Aerobic to Sand trap systems and much more. Depending on your location here in Boise and property you have, these alternative systems may be just the solution for you.
